Washington Rock is a local association of Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS), a youth football and cheerleading program active in 42 states and several countries. More than 425,000 young athletes participate in flag and tackle football, cheerleading and dance. Since 1929, the PWLS Philosophy has been that athletics and scholastics go hand in hand. At every level, PWLS programs seek to develop well-rounded young men and women who learn not only the fundamentals of football, cheerleading, and dance but also the importance of education in an atmosphere conducive to developing sound character while having a good time.
Participants of WRPW are age 5 to 15. Cheerleading squads are group primarily by age, while football teams are grouped by age and weight. That combination sets us apart from other programs—safety of our young athletes always comes first.
All coaches and on-field assistants attend mandatory Rutgers SAFETY training or other similar programs. Head coaches of each squad attend additional mandatory training though the USA coaching program. Anytime we practice or have a game, a CPR certified trainer is present.
Our goal is to provide a safe environment to have fun and learn the fundamentals of football and cheerleading. WRPW is run by a group of dedicated volunteers, committed to continuing this tradition, with a low cost of participation. We depend on our families to help us keep it that way, through running concessions, apparels sales, field set up and clean up, and so on.
